*The publication of this material has been wholly unsatisfactory. While comments by René Derolez and Ute Schwab may be taken as authoritative, comments and transcriptions in other publications should be accepted only if verifiable from photographs of the inscriptions.
*Even photographs should be interpreted with care: the names 'Beornreš' and 'Bolinoš' are published in a separate photograph from the word 'Abba', which is, in fact, inscribed (in a different script) underneath the first two names, as can be seen from from C. Carletti's apograph in idem, '"Scrivere i santi": Epigrafia del pellegrinaggio a Roma nei secoli vii - ix', in Roma fra oriente e occidente, Settimane di studio del Centro italiano di studi sull'alto medioevo 49 (Spoleto: Presso la sede del Centro, 2002), tav. 14, fig 31.
