Some monks (Anonymi 278) were transporting wood on five rafts on the surface of the river Tyne. Because of the wind the rafts were swept along by the swift current out into the expanse of the sea. The monks in the monastery (Anonymi 277) came out to pray for the safety of their brothers, but it was only when Cuthbert 1 started praying that the winds changed course and the rafts were cast up on land. |

When Cuthbert 1 was afflicted with a diseased knee, a man on horse back arrived and told him to prepare some gleaming white wheaten flour with milk in a pot, cook it and place it on the swelling. Cuthbert 1 did so and was healed. |
