Notes
*Stenton 1913, p. 42, cited; Grundy, Berks. 1925, pp. 112-13, on bounds; O'Donovan 1972, pp. 32-3, probably misdated; PN Berks., i. 8, 14, ii. 410, 414, iii. 701-2, 711, bounds describe modern parish; Gelling, ECTV, no. 41, authentic; Kelly, Abingdon, no. 33, probably authentic, witness-list is incompatible with 940 but there are close diplomatic links with three diplomas of 943 (S 486, 487, 492), and it seems possible that a copyist misread the last three minims of .dccccxliii. as in[dictione]; this would explain why no numeral is given for the indiction. The beneficiary is Wulfric Cufing; cf. S 687
