(Author, deacon and abbot of Tours, c.735-804) : Alcuin 1 sought prayers for himself from Æthelberht 10 and the congregation of St Andrew's (Anonymi 1876). He urged that the boys and young men (Anonymi 1877) be taught the knowledge of books as a way to God. A place without teachers could scarcely survive.
