(Author, deacon and abbot of Tours, c.735-804) : Alcuin 1 reported the conversion of the Old Saxons and Frisians through the efforts of Charlemagne 1; the latter's invasion and subjection of the Slavic Wends; the defeat of the Greek invasion of Italy by Charlemegne 1's duces; the defeats of the Avars (Huns) after raids on Italy and Bavaria; and the taking of a large part of Spain from the Saracens by duces and tribuni of Charlemagne 1, though the Saracens -- also called Aggareni -- nevertheless were lords of Africa and the greater part of Asia. He believed that he had written to Colchu 1 about their invasion earlier. Alcuin 1 did not know wherein he had done wrong: he had not received letters from Colchu 1 for a long time.
