Participant: Beorhtwald 6 (Archbishop of Canterbury, 692-731) : [46:] Beorhtwald 6 and bishops of nearly all of Britain (Anonymi 369) attended a synod, to which they invited Wilfrid 2. [47:] With the king [sc. Aldfrith 1] Beorhtwald 6 made it clear that they intended to strip Wilfrid 2 of all property in Northumbria and Mercia. After even his enemies (Anonymi 372) said this was impious, they decided they would give him Ripon with its privilege granted by Agatho 2. They tried to strip him of his rank of honour. The archbishop declared him to be guilty and urged he be condemned.
Participant: Anonymi 369 (Bishops at the synod of Aetswinapathe/Austerfield) : [46:] Bishops from almost all of Britain (Anonymi 369) attended the council. They sent legates (Anonymi 370) to Wilfrid 2 humbly asking him to attend. After Wilfrid 2 arrived, altercations arose amongst those bishops who were impelled by avarice and acting in accordance with the desire of Aldfrith 1 and the consent of the abbots (Anonymi 371). They declared that Wilfrid 2 should be judged by the decrees and commands of Theodore 1. Wilfrid 2 agreed to accept any decisions made in terms of canon law but rebuked them for preferring Theodore 1's decisions in a time of discord rather than the Apostolic statutes. [47:] After Wilfrid 2 refused to give his signed consent to a judgment, they declared that they intended to despoil him of his properties in Northumbria and Mercia. When the archbishop (Beorhtwald 6) and king (Aldfrith 1) wished to act against Wilfrid 2, the bishops (Anonymi 369) reminded them that Wilfrid 2 had attended under a promise of safe-conduct.
(Other): Anonymi 370 (Legates sent by bishops at Austerfield (Anonymi 369) to Wilfrid 2) : Legates (Anonymi 370) were sent by Beorhtwald 6 and the bishops of Britain attending the council (Anonymi 369) to Wilfrid 2, humbly asking him to attend the council and promising that earlier canonical statutes would be taken into account if he attended.
Participant: Anonymi 371 (Abbots associated with the decision of the Council of Austerfield) : The abbots (Anonymi 371) allegedly gave their consent to the questions and altercations that arose amongst some of the bishops once Wilfrid 2 had arrived at the council.
(Other): Anonymous 138 (Minister of King Aldfrith 1) : Before an appropriate form of reply to Wilfrid 2's defence had been found, the minister (Anonymous 138) of the king (Aldfrith 1) secretly stole out of the king's tent in disguise and mixed with the crowd until he came to Wilfrid 2. He disclosed that it was intended that Wilfrid 2 should sign his agreement to the judgment of the synod, after which he would be stripped of everything he had in Northumbria; whatever he gained under Æthelred 1 in Mercia he would have to surrender to Theodore 1; and he would be degraded from his rank. The king's minister (Anonymous 138) then departed.

Participant: Aldfrith 1 (King of the Northumbrians and successor of Ecgfrith 4, 686-705) : [46:] Aldfrith 1 allegedly gave his consent to the questions and altercations that arose amongst some of the bishops (Anonymi 369) once Wilfrid 2 had arrived at the council. [47:] The archbishop [sc. Beorhtwald 6] and king [sc. Aldfrith 1] initially ruled that Wilfrid 2 was to be stripped of all his possessions in Northumbria and Mercia. They then agreed that they would give him Ripon with the privilege offered by Pope Agatho 2, subject to his signing an agreement to remain there and not exercise episcopal functions. When Wilfrid 2 stated that he would appeal, the archbishop and king declared that he was guilty and the king promised the archbishop that if asked he would use his army to force Wilfrid 2 to comply.
Participant: Wilfrid 2 (Bishop of York and Saint, d.709) : [46:] After receiving a request from Beorhtwald 6 and Anonymi 369, Wilfrid 2 attended the synod. He agreed to accept any decisions made in terms of canon law but rebuked them for preferring Theodore 1's decisions in a time of discord rather than the Apostolic statutes. [47:] After hearing the decision of Beorhtwald 6 and Aldfrith 1, Wilfrid 2 declared that he would appeal to the Apostolic See. He was permitted to leave under the safe-conduct that he had been offered.
