Date from Source	After being a solitary for fifteen years, Guthlac 2 took ill on the Wednesday before Easter and died on the eighth day after this, also a Wednesday, this being the fourth day of the Easter festival.

Recipient: Guthlac 2 (Saint, c.674-716) : While at prayer in his oratory, Guthlac 2 experienced an internal stabbing pain and a troublesome faintness. He explained to Beccel 1 that illness had afflicted him during the night. In spite his lack of strength he rose on Easter Sunday, took communion, and preached to Beccel 1. When Beccel 1 came on the seventh day of his illness at the sixth hour, Guthlac 2 was lying in the corner of his oratory opposite the altar. He gave his last commands to Beccel 1. A sweet smell emanated from his mouth. After sunrise on the last day, he spoke to Beccel 1. He said communion, raised his eyes to heaven, stretched out his hands and died.
Witness: Beccel 1 (Cleric who wished to slay Guthlac 2) : Beccel 1 was present on the first day Guthlac 2 became ill. Guthlac 2 preached to him on Easter Sunday. Beccel 1 visited him on the seventh day of his illness [i.e. the Tuesday after Easter Sunday] at the sixth hour. Guthlac 2 spoke to him after sunrise on his final day before the latter took communion and died.
