(Irish scholar) : Anonymous 231 had been unconcerned about the life to come until he was struck down by plague. He told Anonymous 338 he was determined to change if God spared him. He had heard of the deeds of Oswald 1 and asked Anonymous 338 if he had a relic of him since he was fellow Saxon in origin. After the latter affirmed he had, he declared his faith and then drank water blessed by Anonymous 338 that had a piece of the hallowed wood in it. He recovered and thereafter praised God and celebrated Oswald 1.

(Fellow-monk of Anonymous 231) : Asked by Anonymous 231 whether he had relic of Oswald 1, he said had a piece of wood from the stake on which Oswald 1's head had been nailed. He blessed some water, placed the wood in it and gave it to Anonymous 231 to drink.
