Verum quia sermonem in longum duximus tertiumque in expositionem beati Samuhelis secundo et primo prolixiorem dictauimus librum et huic cum triumphatorum martyrio sacerdotum finem imponendum aliquantumque censuimus ob reparandas silentio uires a labore c
(But because we [sc. Bede 1] have made a long discourse and have expounded a third book in a commentary on the blessed Samuel more expansive than the first and second one, we have decided that some kind of ending must be imposed on this with the martyrdom of the triumphant priests and [there be] a cessation from labour in order to recover our strength through silence.) |
