Notes: @Sharpe 1997, p. 64, no. 133, lists the author as 'Artuil (fl. 700)'; he comments: 'William of Malmesbury, Gesta pontificum Anglorum, § 191, cites a letter to Aldhelm (ed. E. Ehwald, MGH Auct. Antiq. 15 (1913-19) 494; CPL 1126; Lapidge/Sharpe 1309), which he attributed to an Irishman named Artuil, "regis Scottie filium". William's attribution is regarded as a guess by M. Lapidge & M. Herren, Aldhelm. The Prose Works (Woodbridge, 1979), 146-7.'
