The following sections are designed as an aid those using the master database.

Glossary

A very brief explanation of some of the most significant words (in Old English, Latin and Modern English) used to describe

the occupation terms, the office terms or the status terms of persons listed in the database
the place types and possession types of the property controlled by or involved in transactions made by persons and/or institutions in the database

Bibliography

This is a select bibliography listing only works cited in the database.

For a more extensive annually updated bibliography, which in turn lists further specialist bibliographies, the user is recommended to consult: Simon Keynes, Anglo-Saxon England: A Bibliographical Handbook for Students of Anglo-Saxon History, ASNC Guides, Texts, and Studies 1, 5th edition (Cambridge: Department of Anglo-Saxon, Norse, and Celtic, University of Cambridge, 2004)

Locations

This section provides listings of modern locations and rivers mentioned in the database together with the English, Scottish or Welsh county or country in which they are to be found.

English, Scottish and Welsh locations are listed within the boundaries of counties before they were subjected to administrative change and (in some cases) re-naming in recent decades. In particular, English counties follow the boundaries that existed before local government reorganization in 1974.

There are two modern location lists:

an alphabetical list of the modern locations and rivers
modern locations listed according to county (England, Scotland and Wales) or country and a list of all rivers
